Logo Design for Trouble with Trebles:
Trouble with Trebles is a vocal group located in the Portland, Oregon area who specialize in music from last century, in particular music from the 1920s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. The group is always working on growing and expanding musically, so it stands to reason that occasionally they decide to update image and branding. I took on this project in part because I’m in the group, but even more, because I wanted us to put our best foot forward, both on and off the stage.
The music the group performs led me to do a study on design as it relates to music from the early 20th century. Based on that, I sketched some ideas then picked five of those design concepts to share with the group. This diamond-shaped art-deco design is the one that immediately stood out. Reminiscent of logos found on posters from the 1930s and 40s, this design lends itself to the classic flair of that bygone era.
The “TWT” (initials from the groups name) were created directly in in Adobe Illustrator by drawing and joining shapes (it’s not a typeface), but I did use a typeface (Breamcatcher) on the full name portion of the logo. As for color choices, I tried several variations on colors but in the final design we ended up choosing the elegant purple and gold version.
